Edifice Complex Podcast – #007 Lloyd Alter – The Case Against Net Zero

Quality, Consequences and the Construction Industrial Complex (part 136).

Our guest this month (dropping, February 15th) is Lloyd Alter, talking about Net Zero, using less and designing for greater effectiveness.

Lloyd Alter has been an architect, developer, inventor and prefab promoter. Lloyd was past president of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Canada and teaches sustainable design at Ryerson University School of Interior Design. In 2014 Lloyd won the USGBC Leadership Award.

Lloyd currently writes for;

*  TreeHugger.com,

*  MNN.com,

In the course of his work developing residential property and prefabs, Lloyd became convinced that we use too much of everything. Too much space, too much land, too much food, too much fuel, too much money, and that the key to sustainability is to simply use less. And, the key to happily using less is to design things better.

In this episode, we discuss;

1.  The case against Net Zero (yes really…)

2.  Membership in the Rubble Club – http://www.therubbleclub.com

3.  Blockchain for property development

4.  Elon Musk and his impact

And much more……
