Quality, Consequences and the Construction Industrial Complex (# 31) All IMHO: NIOSH notes the main cause of Sick Bldg Syndrome is inadequate ventilation. To impact this we need to move to Dedicated Outside Air Systems (DOAS). VAV systems in reality deliver poor thermal comfort and inadequate levels of outside air even when they are designed and commissioned correctly, which is a very unusual occurrence. Dedicated outside air systems provide accurate, stable outside air with a more predictable energy profile. Also thermal comfort can be acuratly targeted with separate heating and cooling systems once they are decoupled from the outside air. In this scenario,…
Our guest this month (October 15th) is Holley Chant, LEED AP, GSAS CGP, CEEQUAL AP.
Robert and I really enjoyed this discussion, it was great to get Holley’s perspective on performance and sustainability within the built environment. Holley is a powerful example and role model for women within the built environment.
Holley built the firm’s sustainability business from the ground up, driving projects that meet LEED, Estidama, CEEQUAL and GSAS sustainability standards for both public and private sector clients across the GCC.
Prior to KEO, as Estidama Planning Manager at the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Holley played an instrumental role in launching the GCC’s 1st mandatory sustainability compliance initiative.
Under Holley’s leadership, KEO Sustainability won the “QGBC Green Service Provider, Building Consultant” Award 2016 in Qatar. Holley is a recipient of the Middle East Consultant Leader of the Year Award in 2016 and the Middle East Architecture Awards Principal of the Year Award (2012).
Holley’s has served as the sustainability judge in the Dubai Cityscape Global Awards (2014-2017), The Middle East Hotel Awards (2015) as well as the Middle East Architecture Awards (2016 and 2014). She has spoken at numerous professional conferences internationally and lectured at educational institutions including Harvard University and the Masdar Institute for Science and Technology.
In this episode, we discuss;
- Performance as a form of beauty
- How sustainability concepts need to be infused into architecture and survive value engineering
- ESTIDAMA, LEED and much more……
